NICPLD provides 36 bursaries each year to enable hospital pharmacists to undertake training in clinical pharmacy at the School of Pharmacy, Queen’s University. This is a part-time programme with the following 3 exit options:
- PG Certificate (9 months duration)
- PG Diploma (24 months duration or 12 months with credit)
- MSc (36 months duration or 24 months with credit)
The programme modules cover a wide range of clinical skills and therapeutic specialities and are delivered via a combination of custom printed and online learning materials. A variety of assessment methods are employed, including, practice-based workbooks, case studies, presentations, written assignments, practical assignments and a research project (MSc).
Students are required to have a Local Mentor within their workplace for the duration of their studies. This is normally a senior clinical pharmacist or medical doctor. The mentor should be able to facilitate access to patients and their clinical notes. In addition, the mentor assists with some of the work-based assessments.
