Aim
To facilitate hospital pharmacy technicians to become accredited pre and in-process aseptic checking technicians in line with the National Framework.
Intended learning outcomes
Having completed this workshop you should be able to:
- list the stages of the pre and in-process course and explain how the assessment documentation should be used
- describe the legal requirements for aseptic preparation of medicinal products
- discuss the legal and ethical implications of accredited checking
- identify factors that contribute to errors and suggest and implement methods to overcome these
- work within the boundaries of your competence and make appropriate referrals
- demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
- undertake pre and in-process checks within the specified local parameters
For whom
Pharmacy technicians who wish to become accredited pre and in-process aseptic checking technicians. Applicants for this programme must meet the following criteria:
- have the relevant experience in aseptic dispensing (six months aseptic preparation/licensed manufacturing experience in their current aseptic unit within the twelve months prior to commencing this programme)
- have demonstrated the ability to aseptically prepare accurately according to locally approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- have an allocated work based mentor who has attended or who intends to attend an appropriate mentoring training workshop
- have the support of the Aseptic Lead Pharmacist within their Trust.
