Aim
To enable pharmacists to optimise the use of medicines in patients with hypertension and those with risk factors for the development of cardiovascular disease.

Intended learning outcomes
Having completed this workshop you should be able to:

• understand the current evidence base relating to the management of hypertension and the reduction of cardiovascular risk
• highlight differences in the management of hypertension in patients with some co-existing morbidities
• apply an evidence based approach to the management of patients with hypertension and those with risk factors for cardiovascular disease
• make recommendations for appropriate medication in line with the N. Ireland Formulary
• optimise the use of medicines in these patient groups to improve patient outcomes.
