Aim
To provide pharmacists with the knowledge required to deliver a safe and supportive service to patients taking DOACs.

Intended learning outcomes
Having completed this workshop you will be able to:

• understand the indications for the use of the novel oral anticoagulants in practice
• list the advantages and disadvantages of the different DOACs
• review the factors which influence the choice of DOAC selected for a patient
• identify common medicines management issues seen in patients receiving DOACs
• follow best practice guidance to improve safe use of these oral anticoagulants
• provide appropriate information to patients regarding their oral anticoagulant therapy.

All pharmacists who wish to develop their knowledge of the direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) with a view to improving the safe and appropriate use of these drugs in practice.
