Aim
To ensure that all participants can use the BNF competently to support the safe, effective and appropriate use of medicines.

Intended learning outcomes
Having completed this workshop you should be able to:

• consider the range of different options for accessing the BNF
• understand the structure of the new format BNF
• determine the appropriate dose of a drug for specific indications and patient groups
• identify the contraindications and caution relating to specific drug products
• find information relating to the unlicensed use of a drug
• provide appropriate advice to patients in relation to medicines prescribed
• competently use the BNF to address medicines-related queries.

For whom
All pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. BNF version 70 marked a fundamental change to the structure of the content of the BNF. The purpose was to bring consistency and clarity to the BNF content whilst increasing the ease with which information can be found. As many users of the BNF have found this change difficult, this workshop aims to support individuals to develop competence in using the BNF to address medicines-related queries.

All participants should bring a copy of the new BNF format (Version 70 or later) to this workshop.
