Aim
To enable pharmacists to extend their knowledge about mental disorders and the treatment of these conditions.
Intended learning outcomes
Having completed this course you should be able to:
- outline the presentation and prognosis of the common mental disorders
- explain the management of the common mental disorders
- understand the proposed mode of action of the commonly-used psychotropic agents, including their potential for ADRs and interactions
- review the national guidance on the management of common mental disorders and the use of psychotropic agents
- list the various methods of service delivery
- comply with the national targets/issues surrounding the pharmaceutical care of people with mental illness
- describe the potential role of the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care for this group
- discuss the service user perspective
- highlight the importance of monitoring physical health in those with a mental disorder and receiving psychotropic agents.
