Aim
This course aims to provide an overview of the use of oral contraceptives. Information is included on the combined oral contraceptive pill, the progestogen-only pill, and drug interactions with oral hormonal contraceptives.

Intended learning outcomes
After completing this course you should be able to:

• discuss the effectiveness of oral hormonal contraceptives
• decide which, if any, oral contraceptive would be suitable for a particular woman
• list the different types of combined oral contraceptive pills
• outline the adverse effects of oral hormonal contraceptives
• Understand the new 'missed pill' rules
• discuss the drug interactions which can occur with oral hormonal contraceptives
