Aim
This course aims to provide an overview of the management of atrial fibrillation in primary care, focusing on the pharmacological approach to manage this common arrhythmia.

Intended learning outcomes
After completing this course you should be able to:

• Understand the key concepts in the management of AF
• Identify which category of patients will benefit from rhythm control or rate control
• Know under what circumstances antiarrhythmic drugs are harmful
• Clearly recognise risk factors for thromboembolism
• Appreciate the importance of thromboprophylaxis
