Aim
To provide healthcare professionals with an understanding of the current evidence-base for the management of acute otitis media.
Intended learning outcomes
Having completed this course you should be able to:
- describe the causes, symptoms and presentation of otitis media
- list the possible complications of acute otitis media
- outline strategies that can be considered in the management of acute otitis media
- identify patients in whom delayed antibiotic prescribing for acute otitis media, may be appropriate
- identify patients who warrant immediate antibiotic prescribing
- describe the choice, dose and duration of antibiotic therapy, if warranted.
